#LOTW Skull n' Crossbones

Hitha Herzog in a black dress, black skull sweater, and black heels and purse.

No I'm not on my way to a funeral—this is a standard New York City uniform! While black on black can seem risky or bland, make it unique by adding surprising elements and textures. I picked this Alexander Wang sweater with skull trim to give the girly dress more of a downtown vibe. Black Louboutins with criss cross straps to keep the entire look elevated. Add my trusty Fendi bag, and I'm ready to conquer the world.

#LOTW Same designer, different dresses: The look of ISSA.

News you can use: it's OK to have the same dress in multiple colors. To make my life easier I bought 5 dresses by Issa (which I will describe in other LOTWs). The brand hails from London and was launched by Daniella Helayel in 2003. These easy breezy beautiful dresses have always been a favorite amongst fashion editors in NYC, London and LA. It becamea “thing” when world witnessed Kate Middleton announce her engagement to Prince William while wearing the long- sleeved sapphire dress. You would be hard pressed to find the blue wrap dress now, BUT you can find the knit stretch jersey I am rocking in this photo. It fits well, looks good on camera and is what I call “throw and go” meaning throw it on and run out the door. I don’t have room in my brain for much else, fashion wise. :)

#JustMillennialThings: Lingerie as Office Attire

Yesterday I had a great time discussing Victoria's Secret's latest ad campaign, which features lingerie being worn as regular clothing—specifically office clothing, paired with blazers and pantsuits. Some would consider that controversial, but as I pointed out, Victoria's Secret is catered to millennials, who in turn look to icons like Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner for sartorial advice. Are we really that shocked to see Victoria's Secret cashing in on the Kardashian trend? Younger generations will continue to push the fashion envelope whether it's "controversial" or not, and since Victoria's Secret profited immensely from this campaign, who are we to judge?

Who Wore it Better #Grammys 2014 version: Reem Acra cocktail...

Who Wore it Better #Grammys 2014 version: Reem Acra cocktail dress on Sara Bareilles (who I adore) after she sang a duet w/ Carole King or me, @hithaprabhakar? Discuss.

Shipley and Halmos hand designed print on a silk tank

I call this the "mildew" print because it reminds me of a certain ex-boyfriends shower that would gross me out every time I stepped into it. However, under a blazer and paired with jeans the print is unbelievably fantastic.

Loving Alpaca for F/W 2010! Shipley and Halmos sweater.

This sweater reminds me of my aunt Betsy who lives in Los Alamos, NM with my uncle and cousin, was in the Peace Corps in Chile in the 70s and makes the most amazing meals using organic ingredients. She's one of the coolest people I know and this sweater definitely belongs in her wardrobe.

More Shipley and Halmos adorable little leather suit with shorts

I love the cropped jacket! Paired with black opaque tights and a pair of ankle boots and you are good to go! (Warning- not everyone can wear this look. If you have a penchant for wearing "mom jeans" or don't have legs like a race horse, I would choose something else from the Shipley and Halmos collection. Just sayin' peeps.

It's Fashion Week Again and We Need an Intern

It's almost here! Fashion Week is one of our busiest times of the year, so to help out and to ensure a smooth Fashion Week 2010 we are looking for an intern to help us take video and pictures at some of the shows. This is a great opportunity for a student to gain access to the tents and add to your resume! We are looking for someone who is truly dedicated, professional, great with social media, web and video! If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, send us your resume to info@hithaprabhakar.com

J. Mendel: accessories

I've talked a lot about the dresses and how this company is doing over all, BUT I didn't point out the incredible accessories which adorned the models. Check out these dazzlers: J Mendel Accessories #2

GOD this is my kind of necklace! What I love most- you can wear it with a gorgeous gown (pictured here) or with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt!

J Mendel Accessories

Again- wearable art! Just awesome.

J. Mendel: a few of my favorite things

Five things I LOVE about MB fashion week:1) The big post summer reunion with all of my fashion friends 2) Wearing all of my new fall clothes (MB Fashion Week = back to school for fashion peeps) 3) Spending so much time in Bryant Park 4) Watching the new assistants throw around 'tude to make themselves seem more important 5) THE J. MENDEL PRESENTATION

Yes, Giles Mendel creates pieces that are unbelievebly out of my budget (an average dress costs upwards of $1500- fur coats starting price $5000), but what I love most about this brand is that it does not deviate from their core audience- wealthy women (read: NOT ME) who, despite a horrible recession and cutting back still indulge in a little slice of luxury. What I love even more is this brand has turned a profit (sales up 20%) over the last year while most luxury companies are experiencing sinking revenues. Also the CEO is amazing. Susan Sokol is the former president of Vera Wang, a cancer survivor and all around power woman.

J Mendel #4

This picture does not do this dress justice- WAY more gorgeous in person!

J Mendel #1

The signature J. Mendel fur.

J Mendel #5

I love the back of this dress.

J Mendel #7

This is wearable art.

Rachel Roy- wrap dress or wearable bath robes?

Rachel Roy SS10 #3 Rachel told me her way of dealing with the recession was to self edit more and put looks down the runway that would a) resonate with the consumer and b) sell at retail. Hmm. This look kinda reminds me of a bathrobe my mother used to wear back in the early 80s. Not sure how well that's gonna sell since I don't see bathrobes being a staple on the red carpet.

In honor of Topshop opening in NYC...

Check out the video I did of me getting a blow out at the Topshop in London last November. PS, rumor has it you are going to be able to get blow outs at the new Topshop Topman here in NYC as well. Awesome.  Part 1:

Backstage with Rodarte.

There are several reasons why I chose Rodarte as the winners of the Swiss Textile Award. 1) Presentation of their press materials and 2) their collection. My backstage pictures doesn't do it justice, but just to give you an idea...

Check out these shoes!! I am so bummed I didn't ask who made them. If anyone knows please enlighten me.

Again, my pictures do not do this shoe justice. The black with the tassels were off. the. hook.

This dress was one of my favorites. No, I wouldn't be able to wear it to a meeting, but maybe for a night out...

I love how they paired this dress with the gold platform shoes during their presentation. So great!

Night of Stella.

The Swiss Textile award show was named "Stella." After a looong day of trying to figure out who was going to get the award, we cleaned up and hit the presentation and ceremony.

From left to right, Diane Pernet, me, Hiromi Ushigome, and Patricia Field. Diane and I met the first night when we shared a cab with Stefano Roncato and Marianne Castier. We had the most profound discussion about living in Paris and that was when I realized what a true original she is. I know SO MANY PEOPLE in fashion that just... aren't.

This was taken right before the organizers yelled at me for stepping on the runway with my heels. Oops!

Syl Tang and I were friends before this trip, but I think Zurich solidified our friendship. Syl always has THE BEST accessories.
